Handpicking Perry Pears

Handpicking Perry Pears

With Harvest now in full swing, a few of us spent a beautiful morning in the orchard last week picking Perry Pears. There was a lot less fruit than last year, but we still got our hands on some deliciously sweet pears and others with a real acidic, tannic punch.

This 2026 vintage should taste pretty good once nature has done its thing and turned these resilient fruits into an extremely satisfying and classy wine-like tipple.

We had two of the youngest of the Hogan's clan at the orchard - Allen and Jane's granddaughters, one in particular clearly had an eye for it. At the age of 3, she knew exactly what she was looking for and only the best fruit made it into her bucket.

We handpick the fruit as they are too delicate to harvest mechanically and, once collected, all pears are swiftly pressed and transformed into either our delicious Sparkling Perry (5.4%) or Lonely Partridge Still bag-in-box (5.8%). Floral, light, delicate with natural sweetness - delicious!
